Yeongdeungpo-gu Provides Emergency Relief to Sjjokbangchon with Good People
Korea's Leading International Relief and Development NGO Good People International Signs MOU on 27th Last Month... Pledges Cooperation to Promote Social Value and Sustainable Social Contribution... Donates Food, Masks, and Supplies to Vulnerable Groups in Jjokbangchon to Overcome COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is working hard to share with marginalized neighbors in cooperation with meaningful local community organizations and is recently striving to overcome the economic and social crisis caused by COVID-19.
On the 27th of last month, the district signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Good People International to realize social value and sustainable social contribution, and as the first action of the agreement, delivered COVID-19 response donation items to the jjokbangchon (shantytown).
Good People International (hereinafter Good People) is a leading international relief and development NGO based in Yeongdeungpo-gu, South Korea, conducting various projects domestically and internationally for marginalized neighbors, including child protection, education, disease prevention and treatment, emergency relief, and community development.
The signing ceremony was attended by Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il, Good People Executive Director Kang Dae-sung, other representatives of the corporation, and Kim Hyung-ok, director of the Yeongdeungpo Municipal Jjokbang Counseling Center.
The agreement includes △ sharing information, promoting education, and diversifying networks to realize social value △ forming consensus and expanding exchanges on shared visions such as medical care, education, and community development △ activating social contribution activities through sharing with local networks △ and mutually promoting cooperation to revitalize and expand the base of Yeongdeungpo-gu’s social economy.
Starting with this agreement, the district plans to build a local network with Good People for various activities such as medical care and education, and to carry out diverse projects to diversify community contribution activities and revitalize and expand the social economy base.
After the signing ceremony, the district and Good People held a donation delivery event to overcome the COVID-19 spread crisis, marking their first joint social contribution activity after the agreement.
The donated items include 50 ‘Good People Hope Boxes’ worth a total of 5 million KRW, each containing about 30 types of food products such as sugar, flour, and cooking oil, produced jointly by Good People and CJ CheilJedang for the underprivileged, as well as 50 vitamins from Vitamin Angels, a Seoul social enterprise, and 500 KF94 masks from Blue Indus, a social enterprise in Gyeongsangnam-do.
The district plans to deliver the donated items to residents of the jjokbangchon who are struggling to obtain essential supplies such as masks amid the COVID-19 spread through the Yeongdeungpo Municipal Jjokbang Counseling Center.
Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, “I am deeply grateful to be able to deliver warm kindness to the residents of the jjokbangchon who are suffering due to COVID-19,” and added, “We will continue to practice social value through sharing with meaningful local companies.”
