Gwangju City Provides 60,000 Masks to Pregnant Women as Priority
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 2nd that it will urgently provide 60,000 masks to pregnant women to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Mayor Lee Yong-seop instructed on the 26th of last month to prioritize the distribution of masks to pregnant women through five public health centers, as the COVID-19 crisis alert was raised to the 'serious' level, making mask supply to high-risk groups such as pregnant women urgently necessary.
Although masks have been supplied through public distribution channels since last week, considering that the quantity is far from meeting citizens' demands, the city decided to prioritize the secured masks for high-risk groups, specifically pregnant women.
The masks will be distributed starting from the 3rd, with 7 masks per person through the local community service centers of their registered address. Recipients must present a maternity handbook or pregnancy confirmation document along with an ID card. In case of proxy receipt, the proxy must also bring their ID card.

Jung Min-gon, Director of the City’s Citizen Safety Office, said, “We have taken measures to prioritize supplying masks to pregnant women who are vulnerable to infectious diseases to protect precious lives in this era of low birth rates,” adding, “We will secure additional quantities as soon as possible to distribute masks to more citizens.”
