COVID-19 Direct Impact Realized... Ssangyong Motor's Domestic Sales in February Down 32.7% Year-on-Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Ssangyong Motor announced on the 2nd that it sold a total of 7,141 units in February, including 5,100 units domestically and 2,041 units for export. Domestic sales decreased by 32.7% due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Regarding February sales, Ssangyong Motor stated, "Due to supply disruptions of parts (wiring harness) caused by COVID-19 originating from China, production suspension (7 days), and the stagnation of the automobile market caused by the contraction of domestic economic activities, sales decreased by 27.4% compared to the same month last year."
Domestic sales were 5,100 units, down 32.7% year-on-year, as the production disruption combined with the demand decline due to the spread of COVID-19 intensified.
Despite the contraction of the domestic market, the G4 Rexton supported domestic sales performance by showing a 34.8% increase compared to the previous month.
Exports showed a positive outlook for this year as sales of the Korando M/T model in the European local market proceeded smoothly, recording a 7.3% increase year-on-year based on finished vehicles.
Ssangyong Motor plans to expand export volumes by strengthening customized marketing activities through regional motor shows in major European markets, including participation in the Brussels Motor Show in Belgium in January and the Vienna Auto Show in Austria.
To expand domestic sales, the company is also pursuing an aggressive sales strategy by enhancing various customer contact marketing and events, such as customer experience and supporters activities.
