Say "Dongiljipdan Gyeokri" Instead of "Cohort Isolation"
[Asia Economy, reporter Lee Jonggil] On March 2, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language recommended replacing the term "cohort isolation" with the Korean equivalent "Dongiljipdan Gyeokri" (group isolation).
"Cohort isolation" refers to the measure of completely locking down a medical institution or similar facility where infectious disease cases have occurred, in order to prevent further spread. The two organizations decided that "Dongiljipdan Gyeokri" is the most appropriate Korean alternative during the Saemal Meeting held from February 17 to 19. In addition, they suggested replacing "bimal" (droplet) with "chimbangul" (saliva droplet), and "diagnostic kit" with either "diagnostic tool (collection)" or "diagnostic (tool) package." They also proposed that "uisa hwanja" (physician patient) and "drive-through" be replaced with "uishim hwanja" (suspected patient) and "seungcha jinryoso" (drive-through clinic), respectively.
