BTS Achieves 4th No.1 on Billboard 200... "First Since The Beatles"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] The group BTS's fourth album has also topped the 'Billboard 200' chart.
This marks the first time since The Beatles that a group’s album has reached number one on this chart four consecutive times.
On the 1st (local time), the US Billboard announced that BTS is the owner of the number one spot on the Billboard 200.
Billboard ranks the chart based on a combined figure of album sales, streaming counts, and download counts.
According to Nielsen Music data, the album released on the 21st of last month recorded total sales equivalent to 422,000 units by the 27th. Among these, physical album sales accounted for 347,000 units. Additionally, streaming counts converted into album sales amounted to 48,000 units, and digital song downloads converted into album sales totaled 26,000 units.
Before BTS, the only artist to achieve four consecutive number one albums was The Beatles.
The Beatles had all four albums released within about four months?from July 30, 1966, to January 6, 1968?reach number one.
BTS first topped the Billboard 200 in June 2018 with 'Love Yourself: Tear.' Following that, they secured number one with 'Love Yourself: Answer' in September 2018, 'Map of the Soul: Persona' in April last year, and now with this latest album.
It took one year and nine months from their first album to the release of their fourth album.
Billboard also noted that 'Map of the Soul: 7' is the 10th album to reach number one that is non-English.
