On February 26, a man visited the Gireum 2-dong Community Service Center in Seongbuk-gu. The man abruptly handed an envelope to the community center staff and said, "Please use this for residents affected by COVID-19," then quickly disappeared outside the door.
The staff immediately followed, but the man vanished like a mirage.
Inside the envelope was a letter stating, "I am a basic livelihood security recipient and have been living on government support. Upon hearing about the COVID-19 damage, I prepared this to offer even a small help," along with cash amounting to 1,187,360 KRW.
The community center staff are making various efforts to find the man, but so far there has been no significant progress.
Kim Yong-in, head of Gireum 2-dong, said, "We express deep gratitude and respect to the anonymous donor," adding, "The donation will be properly delivered to be used for residents affected by COVID-19 in Daegu and other areas, according to the donor's wishes."
Lee Seung-ro, mayor of Seongbuk-gu, who heard the heartwarming story, said, "As COVID-19 rapidly spreads, not only has donation activity declined, but social connections have also been severed. Many people have found warmth in their hearts through this story from Gireum 2-dong," and added, "With active administrative response and many citizens coming together, I believe we will soon overcome COVID-19."
