Lee Jae-myung: "Let's Overcome COVID-19 with the Spirit of the March 1st Movement"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated that he will overcome the 'Novel Coronavirus Infection' (COVID-19) by inheriting the spirit of the March 1st Movement and create a fair world.
On the occasion of the '101st Anniversary of the March 1st Movement' on the 1st, Governor Lee said in his commemorative speech, "I am convinced that the world the ancestors wanted to achieve through the March 1st Movement is a 'fair world' where everyone enjoys equal opportunities without being treated unfairly," emphasizing, "Creating a fair world is the true completion of the March 1st Movement."
He continued, "The self-deprecating voice that 'if you participate in the independence movement, three generations will perish' still proves that our society is unfair," and stressed, "A society where unfairness becomes entrenched and accepted as common sense has no future."
Governor Lee asserted, "Special sacrifices must be followed by special rewards," and added, "We must create a country where it is common sense to respect and favor those who sacrificed for the nation and community."
He also said, "Although insufficient, Gyeonggi Province has abolished the medical expense support limit for independence patriots and their families with a heart of respect," promising, "We will continue to honor and treat patriotic martyrs and national merit recipients so that they can feel proud."
Governor Lee further added, "Inheriting the spirit of the March 1st Movement, I am confident that we will also overcome the recent rampant COVID-19 situation well."
He said, "The March 1st Movement has been continuously carried on through the April 19th Democratic Movement, the May 18th Gwangju Democratic Movement, the June 1987 Uprising, and the Candlelight Revolution," expressing confidence that "with united strength that turns crises into opportunities, we will surely overcome the COVID-19 situation well."
