Lee Jae-myung's Gyeonggi-do Public Bus Operates for 1 Day... 16 Routes in 19 Cities and Counties
[Asia Economy (Uijeongbu) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung's 'Gyeonggi-do Public Bus' (Gyeonggi-do type semi-public bus system) began operation on the 1st.
Gyeonggi-do announced that from this day, it has started implementing the Gyeonggi-do type semi-public bus system using the 'route bidding system,' where the public owns the routes and entrusts operation rights for a certain period to private transport operators selected through competitive bidding.
The province explained that starting with three routes in two cities?Gimpo City (routes G6001, G6003) and Yongin City (route 7007-1)?which began operation on this day, operations will sequentially start on 16 routes in 19 cities and counties by the 1st of next month.
The operation schedule by region is as follows: ▲ March 9, Yangju City (route 8906) ▲ March 13, Gwangju City (route G3202) ▲ March 17, Uiwang City (route G3900), Icheon City (route G2100) ▲ March 19, Uijeongbu City (route G6000) ▲ March 20, Yangpyeong County (route G9311) ▲ March 24, Yangju City (route G1200) ▲ March 27, Guri City (route G1690) ▲ March 30, Hwaseong City (route G6009), Siheung City (route 3301) ▲ April 1, Yeoncheon County (route G2001), Paju City (route 3100), Bucheon City (route G8808).
The Gyeonggi-do public bus will provide services differentiated from existing metropolitan buses that residents can tangibly feel, in order to strengthen 'publicness.'
First, a 'Kind Driver Certification System' will be introduced, requiring all bus drivers to complete kindness training operated by the public sector. Verified drivers through periodic monitoring will receive incentives.
Also, the routes in Paju City and Yeoncheon County will deploy 31-seat limousine buses, and other routes will use 41-seat buses to upgrade the vehicles.
Notably, among the 16 pilot project routes, 12 routes including those in Uijeongbu City and Hwaseong City are 'express routes' that stop at no more than eight stops within the area. These will operate quickly to reduce commuting times for residents.
Lee Yong-ju, head of the Public Bus Division of the province, said, "The Gyeonggi-do public bus will provide services that residents can actually feel," adding, "We plan to proactively expand routes to metropolitan transportation inconvenience areas in the future."
