[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Kim Seonghoe, director of the political research institute ThinkWhy and former aide to independent lawmaker Son Hyewon, is running as a proportional representation candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the morning of the 27th, Director Kim issued a declaration of candidacy, stating, "The proportional representation candidate primary process should be conducted in a way that helps the people and overcomes the COVID-19 crisis," and announced his intention to run as a proportional representation candidate.
Director Kim completed his registration as a candidate in the general competition category of the Democratic Party's proportional representation primary the day before. He explained, "I plan to carry out activities to listen to, analyze, and share the hardships of the people caused by the spread of COVID-19 online, including with 12,000 panelists from the ThinkWhy Research Institute." He added, "Drawing on my experience communicating with the public through various channels, I will contribute in a small way to responding to the COVID-19 situation," and emphasized, "I will become a real-time connection channel between the people and the Democratic Party."
Director Kim is a former vice president of the student council at Korea University, served as secretary of LA Nosamo (People Who Love Roh Moo-hyun), and was an aide to lawmakers Shin Gyerun, Jung Cheongrae, and Son Hyewon. Notably, he planned the 'Mokpo Press Conference' where lawmaker Son explained allegations of real estate speculation against him. Currently, he is active as the director of the political research institute ThinkWhy, working to transform citizens' views on various social issues into data and policy through online surveys.
