Guro-gu (District Mayor Lee Seong) is operating the ‘Senior Storytelling Program.’
On the 27th, Guro-gu announced that it has prepared the ‘Senior Storytelling Program’ to support valuable retirement life for seniors and proper emotional development for children.
The Senior Storytelling Program is conducted by having seniors visit small libraries, welfare centers, etc., in pairs to tell stories to children.
About 30 seniors who have completed the storytelling training course are expected to carry out approximately 420 volunteer activities this year.
Guro-gu is recruiting institutions wishing to be visited by senior storytellers until March 5.
Interested institutions can submit application documents by visiting the Education Support Division of the district office (860-2660) or by email (jy1130@guro.go.kr). Detailed information can be found on the district office website.
Guro-gu also offers a storytelling education program for seniors. It will be held a total of 14 times from March 26 to December 3 in Lecture Room 1 at the Lifelong Learning Center 2 (District Office).
Participants will practice ▲ analyzing story characters ▲ hand play using gloves ▲ producing and utilizing audiovisual materials (teaching aids) based on stories such as ‘Gangajittong (Dog Poop)’, ‘Kkoriga Gin Tokki (The Rabbit with a Long Tail)’, and ‘Pongpong-i and Tultul-i’.
To strengthen the network among students, Guro-gu plans to hold a ‘Storytelling Activity Communication Workshop’ in May. In December, a completion ceremony will be held to share activities and discuss improvement plans. Those with over 80% attendance will receive a certificate of completion signed by the district mayor.
A Guro-gu official said, “Through the storytelling program, seniors and children will be able to spend happy times together,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure the smooth progress of the program.”
