On the 26th (local time), according to local media, a 4-year-old girl in Lombardy, northern Italy, one of the virus spread hotspots, was infected with COVID-19. This is the first confirmed case of a young child infected with the virus in Italy. The child is currently hospitalized near Milan. Her condition is reported to be not serious.
On the same day, one more death from COVID-19 was reported. The deceased was a 69-year-old man from an area under movement restrictions in Lombardy. It was reported that the deceased was already receiving hospital treatment for a serious illness before being infected with the virus. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Italy to 12.
As of that day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Italy was tentatively counted at 373. By region, Lombardy had the highest number with 258 cases, followed by Veneto and Emilia-Romagna with 71 and 30 cases respectively.
