[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri and the former US military base Camp Greaves in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, a representative tourist attraction in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), have been completely suspended for rental use.
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization announced on the 25th that, as the crisis level of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) changed from 'alert' to 'serious,' it decided to suspend all rentals of the Pyeonghwa Nuri Performance Hall located in Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri, the DMZ Ecotourism Support Center performance hall, related auxiliary facilities, and the experience center of the former US military base Camp Greaves within the civilian control zone.
Operations of the Imjingang Dokgedari and the bunker exhibition hall, which are experience facilities within Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri, have also been suspended.
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization will continuously monitor the tourism damage status in the province caused by COVID-19 and prepare various support measures.
Additionally, it recommended the use of annual leave for employees who are elderly or have infants and young children, and established a policy requiring mandatory mask-wearing during working hours. Employees are also prohibited from business trips to domestic areas with confirmed cases, overseas trips, company dinners, and club activities except in special cases. Furthermore, for employees commuting by public transportation, the organization plans to expand and implement staggered working hours and flexible work systems.
Earlier, on the 4th, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization held a 'Gyeonggi Tourism Public-Private Joint Countermeasure Meeting' with Gyeonggi Province to share the tourism damage status and prepare countermeasures against COVID-19. As a follow-up project, on the 24th, it provided more than 70,000 hand sanitizers and masks to over 700 tourism businesses in Gyeonggi Province.
