[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] A man in his 40s, a North Korean defector, who killed a woman living with him in an apartment in Gyeonggi Province and abandoned her body in a travel bag, has been arrested by the police.
The Hwaseong Western Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 24th that they have arrested and are investigating a North Korean defector, A (40, male), on suspicion of murder.
A is suspected of stabbing North Korean defector B (36, female) multiple times with a weapon at his home in Hyangnam-eup, Hwaseong City, between the 22nd and 23rd.
It was investigated that A had recently been cohabiting with B.
According to the police, after killing B, A put her body in a travel bag, left it at his home, and fled. A was caught by the police around 2:30 p.m. that day at a nearby acquaintance’s residence.
During the police investigation, A admitted to the charges and reportedly stated that the murder was committed impulsively.
Earlier, on the 23rd, the police responded to a report from an acquaintance of A saying "A is unreachable," and discovered B’s body.
At the time of discovery, B was found stabbed and curled up inside the travel bag.
