Gwangju Dong-gu, Emergency Disinfection of Public Facilities in Response to COVID-19
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 23rd that it conducted emergency disinfection of religious facilities in the district due to concerns about community infection following confirmed COVID-19 cases linked to religious facilities in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions.
Dong-gu carried out simultaneous disinfection of 20 religious facilities of a certain scale or larger, including churches, cathedrals, and temples, with the voluntary cooperation of five local private disinfection companies.
The district provided disinfectants and personal protective equipment, and for each disinfection company, five religious facilities in their respective zones were disinfected inside and outside by district office staff and company vehicles participating as volunteers.
Dong-gu also purchased five additional portable disinfection devices and is lending them free of charge to local organizations and residents who wish to borrow them.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “With the occurrence of multiple confirmed cases, community infection is more concerning than ever. We will especially strengthen disinfection in multi-use facilities such as religious facilities and devote all efforts to managing community infection.”

Meanwhile, Dong-gu is intensifying disinfection activities at multi-use facilities including four traditional markets, university dormitories, bus turnaround points, subway stations, and social welfare facilities, centered on the emergency disinfection task force.
