Yeonggwang-gun "Join the Carbon Point Program"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) is actively promoting the ‘Carbon Point System,’ which provides incentives to residents who save energy such as electricity, water supply, and city gas, as the first step to reduce greenhouse gases.
According to Yeonggwang-gun on the 21st, electricity, water supply, and city gas are known to cause climate change due to the large amount of greenhouse gases generated during their production processes.
Accordingly, the Carbon Point System promoted by the county is a greenhouse gas reduction practice program in which individuals directly participate in reducing greenhouse gases, the main cause of climate change, by reducing the usage of electricity, water supply, and city gas in homes, commercial facilities, and apartment complexes, and receive carbon points based on their energy usage reduction performance.
The greenhouse gas reduction effect of the Carbon Point System is equivalent to saving the electricity produced by one nuclear power plant if one million households participate and each household saves 1 kW.
Incentives from the Carbon Point System are paid twice a year, in June and December, based on the energy reduction rate compared to the monthly average usage over the past two years.
Incentives are provided in cash (account deposit), Green Card points, and other forms.
Last year, the county provided incentives worth approximately 39.08 million KRW to 2,321 households.
Applications can be made by visiting the county’s Urban Environment Division or the town and township offices, or by directly signing up through the Carbon Point System website.
Low-carbon lifestyle practices in daily life include maintaining indoor temperatures below 20°C in winter and above 26°C in summer, using stairs for floors below the 4th floor, unplugging home appliances, and separating empty bottles and cans for recycling.
