The Gyeongnam Office of Education explained that they requested an investigation from the police regarding these children, and the police confirmed that all 6 had left the country, and are currently investigating their exact whereabouts.
The number of elementary school enrollment candidates in Gyeongnam for the 2020 academic year was 30,951, with 1,260 children not attending the preliminary gathering. For those who did not attend the preliminary gathering, home visits and phone calls were made to confirm, and the whereabouts of 1,254 children were identified. Reasons for absence included temporary overseas travel, enrollment in alternative education, homeschooling, illness, and transfers.
