Alternative New Party: "Conservative Unification 'Impeachment' Like Crossing a Snake Pit... Third Force Integration Stagnant"
"3-Party Merger, Essential for Survival... Will Wait Patiently"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Choi Kyung-hwan, leader of the Alternative New Party, on the 20th commented on the merger of the Bareunmirae Party, Alternative New Party, and the Party for Democracy and Peace, saying, “The conservatives are uniting while burying the impeachment of Park Geun-hye as if it were nothing and leaving the forces that deny the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement as they are,” and added, “However, the unification of the progressive reformist third forces is sluggish.”
At the joint meeting of the Supreme Council members and lawmakers held at the National Assembly that day, Leader Choi said, “The agreement on the three-party merger has not yet been ratified except by the Alternative New Party,” and expressed regret, saying, “It is truly unfortunate.”
Leader Choi emphasized, “The conservative unification is a unification that goes backward, restoring the two-party system. However, our unification is a unification that moves forward, a unification for multi-party cooperation,” and added, “Although our unification train has temporarily stopped, the third force unification train must keep running.”
