Gyeonggi-do Provides 176.7 Billion KRW in Eco-Friendly Vehicle Purchase Subsidies... 8,121 Units
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will provide 176.7 billion KRW in subsidies this year for the purchase of eco-friendly vehicles such as hydrogen cars and electric vehicles.
The province announced on the 19th that it has secured purchase subsidies worth 176.7 billion KRW to support 8,121 eco-friendly vehicles, including electric and hydrogen cars, this year. This is a 53% increase compared to 5,305 vehicles last year.
The purchase subsidies for electric vehicles are 13 million KRW for passenger cars, 160 million KRW for buses, and 27 million KRW for electric cargo trucks. The number of supported vehicles includes 6,000 passenger cars, 206 buses, and 550 electric cargo trucks. Notably, the number of electric cargo trucks supported increased elevenfold from 50 last year to 550 this year.
Hydrogen car purchase subsidies are 32.5 million KRW for passenger cars and 300 million KRW for buses. The supported numbers are 1,335 passenger cars and 30 buses.
Additionally, the province plans to use the secured budget to support the purchase of eco-friendly vehicles after scrapping grade 5 old diesel vehicles and to expand facilities for improving charging infrastructure.
Yang Jae-hyun, head of the Fine Dust Countermeasures Division of the province, explained, "Due to the seasonal management system implemented since December last year, operation restrictions on grade 5 old diesel vehicles are in effect, so a prompt transition to eco-friendly vehicles is required. Now is the right time to switch to eco-friendly vehicles as purchase subsidies and tax benefits are available, and it is an opportunity to participate in improving fine dust in the transportation sector."
