[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) has actively taken steps to assist residents with tax payment convenience following the transition of the individual local income tax to a local government reporting system starting this year.
According to Songpa-gu on the 17th, the individual local income tax, which was previously reported together with the national income tax at the tax office, must now be reported and paid separately to the local government starting this year.
This change is because, after the local income tax became an independent tax in 2014, the corporate local income tax transitioned in 2015, but the individual local income tax underwent a six-year grace period and has now become an independent tax this year.
Accordingly, the district has prepared various support measures to minimize residents' inconvenience due to the change in the individual local income tax reporting method.
First, the district installed and operates an ‘Individual Local Income Tax Report Submission Box’ at the Jamsil Tax Office and Songpa Tax Office within the region to reduce the hassle for taxpayers of having to visit the district office additionally.
After taxpayers visit the tax office to report their income tax, they can place their individual local income tax report form into the prepared submission box, and the district collects and processes the reports in bulk. If the tax jurisdiction differs, the report is forwarded to the relevant city or province for processing assistance.
Additionally, since January, Songpa-gu has dispatched local income tax staff to the Jamsil and Songpa Tax Offices to provide consultation and guidance on related matters, helping taxpayers with individual local income tax payment convenience.
Furthermore, to help residents understand the subdivided categories of individual local income tax?corporate income, comprehensive income, capital gains, and special collection?the Tax Division 2 has organized and operates specialized consultation personnel. They provide advice on reporting and payment methods by tax category and instructions on filling out report forms.
Moreover, the district operates a ‘Free Tax Consultation Room’ to resolve residents’ tax concerns in daily life. Residents can receive consultations from professional tax accountants on individual local income tax as well as comprehensive income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance and gift tax, and other tax-related matters. Consultations are held every Tuesday in the consultation room on the 2nd floor of the district office.
Both individual local income tax specialist consultations and the free tax consultation room can be applied for or inquired about by contacting Songpa-gu Office Tax Division 2 at ☎2147-2610.
