'Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan' Support Withdrawal of Japanese Cruise Passengers... Charter Flight to be Sent
[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Following the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, and Taiwan have also decided to send charter flights to evacuate their citizens aboard the cruise ship Diamond Princess, which is docked in Japan.
According to Hong Kong and Taiwan media on the 16th, Hong Kong's Security Bureau plans to send a charter flight to Japan to bring back 330 Hong Kong citizens on the Diamond Princess.
The date for deploying the charter flight will be finalized once consultations with Japan are completed. The Security Bureau has requested Japan to promptly confirm the detailed schedule.
The Taiwanese government has also decided to send a charter flight to assist in evacuating about 20 Taiwanese passengers on the ship. They are currently in discussions with the Japanese government.
The Canadian government also announced on the 15th (local time) that it will dispatch a charter flight to evacuate its citizens aboard the Diamond Princess. Canadian passengers showing symptoms of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) will be transferred to Japanese medical facilities. Returning passengers will be quarantined for 14 days.
