Korean Party Proposes Party Name Change to 'Future Korea United New Party'... Resolution to Expel Lee Jong-myung Passed
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The Liberty Korea Party has finalized the name of the new party as 'Mirae Hanguk Tonghap Shindang' (Future Korea United New Party). They also expressed their determination to enforce this at the Unified New Party Preparatory Committee meeting scheduled for the afternoon of the 13th.
Shim Jae-cheol, the floor leader of the Liberty Korea Party, met with reporters immediately after the party members' meeting held at the National Assembly that morning and said, "I informed the members that we are promoting the party name related to the unification as Mirae Hanguk Tonghap Shindang," adding, "The members seem to agree with this."
When asked whether the Preparatory Committee is promoting the name 'Mirae Tonghap Shindang' (Future United New Party), Shim explained, "The original first option was Mirae Hanguk Tonghap Shindang. The reason such a name was mentioned was due to concerns that the first option might not be accepted, but I was informed that the Policy Committee Chair spoke with the Secretary-General of the Election Commission and was told there would be no particular issues."
He reiterated, "Since there is no problem with the Election Commission either, we plan to proceed with Mirae Hanguk Tonghap Shindang."

At the party meeting that day, the Liberty Korea Party also passed a resolution to expel Representative Lee Jong-myung. Lee had previously been expelled in February last year for stating that the May 18 Democratic Uprising "was distorted from a riot into a democratic movement." Shim said, "(Lee) will move to Mirae Hanguk Party," adding, "Other members will follow gradually."
