View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is collaborating with Seoul City to promote public awareness of the fine dust seasonal management system during the fine dust seasonal management period (’19.12.~’20.3.) along with the implementation of the Eco Mileage special points system.
The district recognizes the severity of recurring fine dust every year and has introduced the fine dust seasonal management system (seasonal management plan). During the winter months of December to March, when high concentrations of fine dust frequently occur, it aims to reduce the base concentration by implementing stronger reduction measures than usual, thereby decreasing the frequency and intensity of high-concentration fine dust occurrences to protect the environment and residents’ health.
The fine dust seasonal management measures consist of nine key actions: ▲restriction on operation of grade 5 vehicles based on automobile emissions ▲two-day vehicle operation system for administrative/public institutions and their employees ▲increased parking fees for grade 5 vehicles in Seoul public parking lots ▲introduction of Eco Mileage special points ▲focused management of appropriate heating temperatures in large buildings during winter ▲intensive management of air pollutant-emitting businesses ▲expanded restrictions on the use of old construction machinery ▲designation and enhanced cleaning of key management roads ▲special indoor air quality inspections for vulnerable groups and multi-use facilities.
Among these, the ‘Eco Mileage Special Points’ system is implemented to encourage residents to voluntarily reduce heating use during winter by providing additional Eco Mileage points and various benefits during the fine dust seasonal management period, thereby achieving both fine dust reduction and energy savings simultaneously.
For individual members, if energy savings exceed 20% compared to the previous two years before the fine dust seasonal management period, they can receive 10,000 special points. For group members, the evaluation period has been changed from twice a year over six months to twice a year over four months, focusing management during the four months when energy use peaks.
Eco Mileage points can be accumulated up to 100,000 points annually based on the reduction rate over six months and can be used in various ways such as ▲cash conversion ▲payment of local taxes ▲payment of apartment management fees ▲exchange for traditional market Onnuri gift certificates and mobile cultural gift certificates.
Individuals or groups wishing to participate in Eco Mileage can sign up as members by visiting the Seoul Eco Mileage website (ecomileage.seoul.go.kr) or by visiting their nearest community service center.
Additionally, the district plans to increase the effectiveness of fine dust reduction and promote district administration by encouraging residents’ participation in the fine dust seasonal management system through the use of 192 media boards installed in elevators of 18 apartment complexes.
The media board promotional content includes ▲encouraging resident participation in the fine dust seasonal management system ▲guidelines for resident actions during high-concentration fine dust alerts ▲other district news, with each message broadcast for 30 seconds about 100 times a day to inform residents about the fine dust seasonal management system and various district information.
Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We have prepared Eco Mileage special point benefits that residents can tangibly feel to reduce fine dust,” and added, “We ask for active participation and interest from residents.”
