This excavation was conducted by Hanwha Cultural Heritage Research Institute (Director Shin Yong-min) from July last year to this month as part of a Cultural Heritage Administration national subsidy project for the maintenance and repair of the tumuli cluster.

The investigation focused intensively on the central area, which had not been previously examined.

During the excavation period, within a narrow area of 500㎡, 37 wooden coffin tombs (mokgwanmyo), 3 wooden box tombs (mokgwakmyo), 11 stone box tombs (seokgwakmyo), 1 stone coffin tomb (seokgwanmyo), 5 jar coffin tombs (onggwanmyo), and 7 pit graves (su-hyeol) from the Gaya period were identified.

Additionally, over 150 artifacts including bowl-shaped stands from the 1st to 4th centuries, iron swords, and crystal beads were excavated from the Gaya period tombs. Four Joseon Dynasty tombs were also identified.

In particular, the tombs were found to be continuously and densely overlapping, arranged in a unique pattern of 5 to 6 rows parallel to the contour lines, highlighting the need for in-depth research.
