"Stop COVID-19"... Gwangjin-gu Joins Forces with Religious Facilities and Universities!
Official Letters and Notices Delivered to Local Religious Facilities to Communicate Prevention Guidelines and Request Cooperation... Establishment of SNS Hotline Between District Office and University and Second Screening for International Students
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has decided to join forces with religious facilities and universities to prevent the local spread of the novel coronavirus infection.
The district is assessing preventive measures and the availability of supplies at 120 local religious facilities, listening to each facility’s opinions to identify any risk factors, and plans to provide masks and conduct disinfection activities.
Additionally, through official letters, they have requested that temperature checks, hand sanitization, and mask-wearing be implemented upon entry for worship services, masses, and Buddhist ceremonies.
They also sent official documents requesting that handwashing be practiced regularly and that isolation spaces be secured to accommodate suspected patients if they arise.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, “Our district is fully committed to implementing quarantine measures, operating the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters 24 hours a day. Although there have been no confirmed infections so far, this is a time that requires comprehensive efforts from all sectors.”
He added, “Since virus transmission is a concern in indoor spaces, wearing masks is absolutely necessary. We will do our best to ensure there are no blind spots in the quarantine system through a mutually organic cooperative system with religious facilities.”
Along with this, as the new semester approaches and about 900 local international students are expected to visit China and return, the district has decided to actively respond to block the possibility of coronavirus spread.
The district has formed a dedicated team for international students within the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and plans to maintain real-time situation management and monitoring activities through an SNS hotline with universities.
They will also link each university with screening clinics to conduct secondary examinations for returning international students. For example, Konkuk University will use the screening clinic at Konkuk University Hospital, Sejong University will set up a temporary screening clinic in the Gwanggaeto Hall on campus and conduct three examinations on the 12th, 19th, and 26th, and Presbyterian University, considering the small number of international students, plans to conduct examinations at the district health center.
Furthermore, they will regularly check and address requests from each university and strengthen disinfection activities around areas with high foot traffic such as near Konkuk University and the densely populated multi-family housing area near Sejong University.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “On the 3rd, we held a public-private-academic countermeasure meeting and decided to cooperate with universities to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. We have established an emergency contact system and operate an SNS hotline to continuously communicate and overcome this together.”
