Jin Joong-kwon: "Jung Bong-ju's role is only to soothe fanatic Munppa supporters to prevent backlash"
"Democratic Party Needs to Move Away from Anti-MeToo and Anti-Trickery"
"Jung Bong-ju Has Already Lost Utility from the Party's Perspective"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon commented on April 11 regarding former lawmaker Jeong Bong-ju, who was disqualified as a preliminary candidate for the April 15 general election by the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "Does he now only have the role of soothing the fanatical Moonppa (a derogatory term for President Moon's ardent supporters) so they don't rebel further?"
On the same day, Jin posted on his Facebook, stating, "His political life ended the moment he conspired with the members of Nakkomsu and fabricated an alibi, lying in front of the people."
Jin added, "The party is in a situation where it must rid itself of 'MeToo' and 'Kom-su' influences, so I don't think there is any role left for him (Jeong) in the party," and said, "He just can't admit that."
He continued, "If only he had honestly confessed, reflected, and apologized as I advised back then," adding, "That's why you should listen to me."
Jin also said, "For the party, Jeong Bong-ju has already become useless. His dysfunction outweighs his function."
Regarding the supporters of former lawmaker Jeong who protested in front of the Democratic Party headquarters on the same day, demanding the expulsion of Democratic Party lawmaker Geum Tae-seop from Seoul Gangseo-gap, Jin said, "Their demand to oust Representative Geum will not be accepted. It is procedurally impossible," and evaluated, "Within the Democratic Party, where lawmakers have become mere rubber stamps following orders from pro-Moon power brokers, Geum Tae-seop is the only lawmaker with a brain. If he is ousted, the general election will become interesting. That symbolic meaning is very significant."
Earlier, the Democratic Party's Public Official Candidate Recommendation Committee (Gonggwanwi) announced through a written briefing on the 9th, "Today, the committee resolved to disqualify former lawmaker Jeong as a preliminary candidate."
The committee explained, "Since former lawmaker Jeong was acquitted in the related first trial, we conducted multifaceted discussions and concluded that disqualification was inevitable to fulfill the responsibility of a public party prioritizing the people's standards and expectations."

In response, former lawmaker Jeong held a press conference at the National Assembly Press Hall on the 11th, stating, "Though I must swallow tears from unbearable pain, I will do my best again in the given field for the success of the Moon Jae-in administration and the reestablishment of the regime," accepting the party committee's decision.
