Dongdaemun-gu, Neatly Organizing Overhead Wires Tangled Like a Spider Web
'Overhead Line Maintenance Project' Promotion... Aiming to Prevent Safety Accidents and Improve Urban Aesthetics... Two-Month Preliminary Survey... Full-Scale Maintenance from June to December This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) is promoting the ‘2020 Overhead Line Maintenance Project’ to neatly organize the overhead lines tangled like cobwebs on utility poles in residential alleyways.
After conducting a field survey for about two months starting in December last year, the district selected maintenance areas this year focusing on regions with many requests for overhead line maintenance.
Eight electric and broadcasting communication operators, including Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), SK, and KT, will divide the areas and carry out maintenance on complex communication drop lines and power lines connected from utility poles to stores and houses, as well as broken or sagging communication lines, from June to December this year.
In particular, four areas will be intensively maintained: Yongdu-dong, Hwikyung-dong, the area around Cheongnyangni General Market, which are representative low-rise residential dense areas in the region, and Dapsimni-dong near the Janganpyeong urban regeneration project site.
The district plans to thoroughly manage the post-maintenance process by conducting on-site inspections involving the Radio Management Office and communication operators in the areas where maintenance has been completed.
If overhead line maintenance is needed, inquiries can be made to the Overhead Cable Civil Complaint Call Center (1588-2498) operated by the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association.
You Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Through previous maintenance projects, we have significantly organized the messy overhead lines. We will continue to promote overhead line maintenance projects and undergrounding of power lines to prevent safety accidents and improve the urban landscape.”
