[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] It has been confirmed that the cumulative number of foreign nationals infected with the novel coronavirus in China has reached 27.
Geng Shuang, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a regular briefing on the 10th that as of 8 a.m. that day, 27 foreigners in China had been confirmed to have the novel coronavirus, of whom 3 have recovered, 2 have died, and 22 are receiving isolated treatment. According to our government, it is known that 3 of these are our nationals.
Regarding the deaths of one American and one Japanese in China due to the novel coronavirus, spokesperson Geng Shuang said, "One Chinese-American died from the novel coronavirus on the 6th in Wuhan, Hubei Province," adding, "During treatment, he was in contact with relatives in China and received active treatment."
He also said, "We express our condolences to the deceased," and "China has notified the United States of the relevant situation through diplomatic channels and will cooperate with the U.S. and the bereaved families in follow-up procedures."
Spokesperson Geng Shuang explained, "China is focusing on protecting the lives and ensuring the safety of nationals of all countries in Wuhan," and "We are taking active measures to promptly address their reasonable concerns."
