Opening of 3 Eunpyeong Uri Dongnae Care Centers, Branches 1 to 3
Expansion to 10 Locations by 2022... Establishing a Dense Village-Centered Care System... Providing a Childcare-Friendly Environment
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is opening three Our Neighborhood Care Centers to alleviate the childcare burden on dual-income families and address the blind spots in elementary school aftercare.
In addition to the Eunpyeong Branch No. 2 (located near Galhyeon Elementary School in Galhyeon 2-dong), which opened on the 3rd, the Eunpyeong Branch No. 3 (inside the Baekryeonsan Hillstate 2nd residents' community facility in Eungam 2-dong) and the Eunpyeong Branch No. 1 for children with disabilities (on the 1st floor of Seoul Ritz No. 1 Youth Housing ‘Irumchae’ in Jingwan-dong) will open on the 17th, operating a total of three Our Neighborhood Care Centers.
Our Neighborhood Care Centers are elementary aftercare facilities that provide safe aftercare services within the community for all children aged 6 to 12 who need care, supporting spaces for rest, leisure, and play after school.
With three professionals including a center director and care teachers assigned, the centers offer regular care services for full-day or scheduled use and temporary care services for irregular use due to emergencies such as school closures. They also conduct Project-Based Learning (PBL) centered programs considering children's rest, leisure, play, daily life, and learning.
Operating hours are from 2 PM to 7 PM during the school term and from 9 AM to 6 PM during vacations, Monday through Friday, providing continuous operation for more than 8 hours a day. Children are selected based on priority determined by each center’s operating committee, regardless of parental income, prioritizing dual-income or single-parent families.
The usage fee, including material costs, program fees, and snack fees, is within 50,000 KRW per month. Applications can be made through the Our Neighborhood Care Portal (https://iseoul.seoul.go.kr/icare).
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “Along with public childcare services for infants and toddlers, we plan to expand public childcare services for elementary students. Following the opening of the 4th branch in Yeokchon-dong in the first half of the year, we will expand to 10 centers by 2022. This will help reduce excessive private education dependence and childcare burdens for dual-income families. We will also establish a dense community-centered care system to create a better future for raising children in Eunpyeong.”
