'Public Wi-Fi Installation'... Seoul City Invests 101.4 Billion Won in Smart City Development
28% of the 362.6 Billion KRW Informatization Project Budget
Public Wi-Fi Across Seoul and Private Big Data Platforms
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Seoul Metropolitan Government is expected to accelerate its smart city projects this year.
On the 9th, the city announced that out of the 362.6 billion KRW budget for informatization projects, 101.4 billion KRW will be invested in related projects such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and artificial intelligence (AI) connected to smart cities.
First, 11.6 billion KRW will be invested to establish public Wi-Fi throughout Seoul. A total of 4,475 public Wi-Fi units will be installed.
Additionally, the city plans to promote the establishment of a public-private joint big data platform and apply AI-based sewer pipeline defect detection systems and chatbot systems for public service reservations.
The city also expects the informatization projects to have a positive effect on youth job creation. Applying the employment inducement coefficient from the Bank of Korea, it is estimated that 3,807 youth jobs will be created.

To encourage participation from small and medium ICT private companies, the city operates the "2020 Seoul Informatization Project Procurement Information" website, which provides detailed project plans and procurement schedules in advance to related companies and citizens.
