Galaxy Fold Launch Price Drops to 1,998,700 Won...
Galaxy Z Flip Launch Approaching with 400,000 KRW Price Cut
Now Cheaper Than iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB Model
Price Cut and Increased Subsidies Expected Ahead of New Product Launch
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics has lowered the launch price of the 'Galaxy Fold' ahead of unveiling its new foldable phone.
According to industry sources on the 8th, KT has reduced the Galaxy Fold's launch price to 1,998,700 KRW, a decrease of 399,300 KRW from the previous price. Currently, SK Telecom and LG Uplus list the price as 2,398,000 KRW on their websites, but it is expected that they will lower the price soon.
With the Galaxy Fold's price reduction, its launch price has become cheaper than the iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB model. Currently, based on KT's unlimited data plan (100,000 KRW per month), applying the official subsidy of 500,000 KRW and an additional subsidy of 75,000 KRW brings the price down to around 1.42 million KRW.
Samsung Electronics and the mobile carriers lowered the Galaxy Fold's launch price to clear out inventory ahead of the 'Galaxy Z Flip' release on the 11th (local time). Although there were rumors in the distribution industry that the price would be reduced starting from the 6th, the timing was delayed due to prolonged coordination with the mobile carriers. The Galaxy Fold, as the first foldable phone and classified as a super flagship, is an iconic model with limited production volume.
Ahead of the 'Galaxy S20' series pre-orders starting on the 14th, it is expected that the Galaxy S10 series will see price reductions or increased official subsidies. KT raised the official subsidy for the Galaxy S10 Plus (LTE model) to a maximum of 500,000 KRW as of the 1st. Including an additional discount of 75,000 KRW based on the DataON Video plan, the purchase price comes to 580,000 KRW. The launch price is 1,155,000 KRW.
