UN Panel on North Korea Sanctions Approves Medical Equipment Import and Other Aid to North Korea
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] It has been confirmed belatedly that the UN Security Council's North Korea Sanctions Committee (1718 Committee) has approved three North Korea support projects, including the import of medical equipment.
According to the UN Security Council North Korea Sanctions Committee website on the 6th (local time), the committee approved the World Food Programme (WFP)'s support for North Korea on the 20th of last month, followed by decisions on North Korea support projects by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Eugene Bell Foundation on the 28th and 30th of the same month, respectively.

Accordingly, WHO will import stethoscopes and microscopes for telemedicine, electrocardiogram devices, and portable abdominal ultrasound devices into North Korea. The Eugene Bell Foundation has been exempted from sanctions related to the treatment project for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB, severe tuberculosis resistant to treatment), and WFP plans to import goods worth approximately $110,000, including 7,500 handcarts, 5,000 shovels, and 5,000 pickaxes. The sanction exemption period granted by the UN North Korea Sanctions Committee to these three organizations is until the end of July, six months from the date of approval.
