[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is recruiting participants for the ‘Safe Return Home Scout’ program to support the safe return of crime-vulnerable groups late at night.
The Safe Return Home Scout meets applicants at service locations such as subway stations or bus stops to assist them on their safe way home.
Scouts, working in pairs, accompany individuals on safe routes and also conduct patrol activities in crime-prone areas such as secluded alleys.
Activity hours are from 10 PM to midnight on Mondays, and from 10 PM to 1 AM the following day on other weekdays.
Residents wishing to use the safe return home service can apply through the ‘Ansim-i App’ at least 30 minutes before arriving at the subway station or bus stop. Reservations can also be made via the Safe Return Home Situation Room (☎2116-3742) and the 120 Dasan Call Center. The service is free of charge.
Scouts assist residents’ return home based at six Nowon Police Station precincts (Wolgye, Danghyeon, Hwarang, Nowon, Madeul, Bulam) and two police boxes (Sanggye 1, Danggogae).
Applications are accepted until the 11th, and successful candidates will be announced on the 21st of this month after document screening and interviews. The total number of selected personnel is 19, including 18 field workers and 1 situation room staff. Considering that the beneficiaries of the project are women, 70% of the total selected will be female.
Anyone aged 18 or older and a resident of Seoul can apply. However, participation is limited to one or two people per household, and those currently enrolled in university or graduate school are excluded.
Selected Safe Return Home Scouts will undergo orientation and launch ceremonies and begin activities in March.
Last year, the service supported a total of 10,794 safe returns and conducted 4,287 patrols in crime-vulnerable areas.
In addition to the Safe Return Home Scouts, efforts are being made to create a safe local environment through programs such as ▲Safe Security Guards ▲Safe Parcel Lockers ▲Safe Keeper Houses.
District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “The implementation of the late-night return home support service will prevent crimes in advance and strengthen the safety network within the community. We will continue to strive to make Nowon-gu a safe place where residents can feel secure.”
