WHO "New COVID-19 Cases in China Show First Decline"
Judgment on Peak Status Premature, Global Research Innovation Forum Also Convened
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The World Health Organization (WHO) on the 6th (local time) focused on the decrease in the number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in China.
Mike Ryan, head of the WHO Emergency Response Team, said at a press briefing that day, "It is premature to say that the novel coronavirus has reached its peak, but for the first time on the 5th, the number of new confirmed cases in China decreased."
Ryan explained, "While the number of infections is increasing in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus, the rate of increase in regions outside Hubei Province is not reaching that of Hubei."
He added, "Although confirmed cases will increase over the next few days, at least for now, the situation is stable."
At the briefing, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "We have convened a research and innovation forum to identify research priorities on the novel coronavirus and coordinate international research efforts."
