City Lockdown Measures in Zhejiang Province, China, Spread Beyond Hubei Province
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Lockdown measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus have been implemented for the first time in a province other than Hubei Province, China.
The authorities of Weiqing City, Zhejiang Province, China, announced through an emergency notice that they have enforced a city lockdown starting from 6 p.m. on the 4th to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Weiqing City, with a population of 1.4 million, has closed its train station, blocked highways and local roads, and prohibited movement between neighborhoods and villages within the city.
Weiqing, a small city with about 1.4 million residents, is reported to have already surpassed 100 confirmed cases. Zhejiang Province has the second highest number of confirmed cases in China, following Hubei Province.

The Weiqing authorities also issued a stay-at-home order limiting citizens' outings to no more than twice a week. Schools will remain closed for the time being, and all shops and businesses not related to essential supplies have been ordered to shut down.
