Lotte Confectionery Launches Xylitol Health Supplement 'Mutans Project'
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Lotte Confectionery announced on the 6th that it has launched the xylitol tablet health supplement "Mutans Project."
The Mutans Project uses xylitol, which has been recognized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for its effect in reducing the risk of dental caries. Since it is in tablet form rather than gum, it is recommended to slowly dissolve it in the mouth to allow it to stay sufficiently long. The recommended intake is one tablet (1.9g) three times a day.
It is available for purchase at Costco, priced at 15,900 KRW (180 tablets).

Xylitol has a pentose structure that cariogenic bacteria such as mutans streptococci cannot break down, thereby inhibiting acid production by these bacteria in the mouth and reducing the risk of dental caries. Among the individually recognized ingredients approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, xylitol is the only one granted the function of reducing the risk of dental caries.
