On the 5th (local time), an aircraft landing through severe weather at Istanbul Sabiha G?k?en Airport in Turkey skidded off the runway and collided with the ground. The Turkish government reported that in addition to one fatality, 157 people were injured in the accident. The injured were transported to 18 nearby hospitals for treatment.
The aircraft was carrying 177 passengers and 5 crew members. A Turkish government official stated, "The accident aircraft skidded off the runway during landing and slid about 50 to 60 meters." According to the accident video, the landing aircraft failed to reduce speed and left the runway at high speed.
According to some videos, a fire broke out shortly after the accident, but firefighters quickly extinguished it to prevent further damage.
All passengers evacuated immediately after the accident. Some passengers reportedly escaped without assistance from rescue teams.
