Shinsegae Department Store Launches 'Fleece' Targeting Millennials with The North Face
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Shinsegae announced on the 6th that, starting from the 7th, it will launch a limited edition of short-length “fleece” items, which have rapidly emerged as a mega trend item since last year, in collaboration with The North Face.
Fleece, also called “ppolgeori” or “hooriseu,” is a fabric made by processing polyester material to resemble sheep’s wool on the surface, providing excellent warmth.
Following last year, the mild winter continuing into early this year has boosted the special demand for fleece. Looking at the growth rate of the outdoor genre at Shinsegae Department Store in January this year, it increased by 7.2% compared to the previous year, gaining popularity evenly across all age groups.
Along with the rise of street fashion, the popularity of fleece is expected to continue into February, the transitional season. In particular, fleece products from popular outdoor brands such as The North Face and Discovery sold out within two months of arrival.
Accordingly, Shinsegae Department Store is launching two exclusive fleece products in limited quantities in collaboration with The North Face to welcome the upcoming transitional and new school seasons. One of The North Face’s flagship products, the “Limo Fleece Hood,” was pre-released by The North Face in December last year and sold out within a month. This fleece product uses recycled fabric and zipper tape made from reused plastic bottles.
Shinsegae added a hood design to present a casual style fleece. Additionally, it will exclusively offer two colors?white and light brown?that were the most popular fleece colors last year, actively appealing to fashion-sensitive customers in their 20s and 30s.
