WHO Requests 800 Billion KRW Support for Novel Coronavirus Response
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The World Health Organization (WHO) has requested support amounting to $675 million (approximately 800 billion KRW) over three months to respond to the novel coronavirus.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated on the 5th (local time), "Today we are launching a strategic preparedness and response plan," referring to this request.
Of the requested funds, $60 million is for WHO operational costs. The remaining amount will be allocated to countries in need of assistance related to the novel coronavirus.
Director-General Ghebreyesus also explained that after the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, WHO used $9 million from its own emergency fund and sent 500,000 masks, 350,000 pairs of gloves, 40,000 respirators, and 18,000 gowns to 24 countries.

He also stated, "The international expert team led by WHO will depart for China very, very quickly."
