County Governor Myeong Hyeon-gwan instructed at an emergency executive meeting on the 3rd, “Masks will be distributed to all residents, including vulnerable groups such as elderly people in rural fishing villages, and hand sanitizers will be provided to ensure proactive safety management measures.”
Accordingly, the county is distributing masks to all residents through the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and plans to supply hand sanitizers at crowded places, focusing all efforts on securing related supplies.
Using the disaster management fund, 130,000 masks and 5,000 hand sanitizers have been purchased and will be distributed to residents through towns, townships, and departments, with guidance to ensure masks are worn when going out.
In particular, hand sanitizers are being provided at major tourist sites, newly opened daycare centers and kindergartens, bus terminals, restaurants, bathhouses, taxis, and training facilities to ensure their use.
Additionally, safety management inspections and infection prevention education are being conducted for vulnerable groups such as social welfare facility workers and users, and elderly job participants.
By allocating contingency funds, six additional thermal imaging cameras have been purchased and installed at frequently visited locations such as terminals and Usuyeong Port, and protective suits and infectious disease prevention promotional booth supplies have also been secured to do their best in preventing the novel coronavirus.
In this regard, the county held an emergency countermeasure meeting on the 5th to report on the coronavirus infection status and check the response measures of each responsible department.
Governor Myeong emphasized, “Although no suspected or confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus have occurred in Haenam County yet, we will operate the countermeasures headquarters proactively to reduce residents’ fear and ensure safety.”
Earlier, Haenam County formed a joint countermeasure committee with 11 public, private, and military institutions in the area to prepare response plans including each institution’s handling status and cooperation and support for efficient response.
