'Kangarang Weather Caster' Donates 5 Million Won for Warm Winter in Yongsan-gu

Donation of Proceeds from the Sale of the '2020 Donation Calendar' Created for Low-Income Youth Scholarship Support

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] ‘Weather Goddess’ Kang Arang, a KBS weathercaster and announcer, donated 5 million won to the Yongsan District Office (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) for the Warm Winter Campaign (hereafter referred to as Daggyeo).

The donation is intended to support scholarships for low-income youth in the area.

The donation ceremony was held on the 4th at the district mayor’s office. Caster Kang said, “I planned this donation to contribute, even if only a little, to Yongsan where I live,” and added, “I hope the donation will be used well for a good cause.”

Kang is a former ‘Miss Chunhyang.’ She was selected as the beauty winner at the 84th National Chunhyang Selection Contest in 2014 and began her broadcasting career in earnest. She is currently active as a KBS News9 weathercaster, an anchor for National Assembly Broadcasting NewsN, and a DJ for KBS CoolFM’s Late Night Restaurant.

This donation was made using the proceeds from the sale of the ‘2020 Donation Calendar’ that Kang created by compiling photos from her daily life. At the end of last year, Kang sold the calendar through social networking services (SNS), and it sold out 500 copies within just one day of launch.

Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan District, said, “Due to adverse factors such as the economic downturn and the novel coronavirus, the fundraising results are lower than last year,” and added, “The district will do its best to achieve the target amount of 1.352 billion won by the campaign’s end on the 19th.”

As of the 4th, the district’s Daggyeo donation amount is about 1 billion won.

In addition to Caster Kang, donations were also made by ▲Amorepacific (28 million won) ▲Chungsin Church (10 million won) ▲DB Kim Joon-ki Cultural Foundation (10 million won) ▲HDC Shilla Duty Free (30 million won) ▲HDC Hyundai Development Company (33 million won), attracting attention.
