Seongnam City Recommends Closure of Programs in 50 Neighborhoods... Checks on Mask Hoarding and More
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province recommended suspending programs at 50 community centers on the 4th to prevent the local spread of the novel coronavirus. The city also decided to take strict action against unfair trading practices such as hoarding masks and hand sanitizers.
Seongnam City decided to fully or partially suspend the operation of community center programs by district until the 31st of next month. Instead, tuition fees will be refunded.
The city explained that this recommendation was made as a preemptive measure due to the nature of the infection and urged active cooperation from students and instructors.
Separately from joint inspections by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the National Tax Service, and the Fair Trade Commission, the city will organize and operate its own inspection team until the 14th.
The self-inspection targets 40 locations including department stores, marts, convenience stores, and pharmacies, checking compliance with price display regulations. If violations are found, corrective recommendations and fines will be imposed according to relevant laws.
A city official emphasized, "Due to the recent surge in demand for masks and hand sanitizers, there are concerns about price hikes," adding, "We will do our best to stabilize prices by preventing actions that disrupt market order."
