CU Supports 20,000 Masks for Wuhan Evacuees... Worth 50 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Convenience store CU is also joining the support for masks for Wuhan residents.
BGF Retail announced on the 4th that it will urgently provide 20,000 masks to residents and expatriates from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, who are staying in Jincheon County, Chungbuk, and Asan City, Chungnam, due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.
The support scale is worth about 50 million KRW and was fully funded through donations raised by BGF Retail. The masks will be delivered to Jincheon County and Asan City through the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association.
This emergency mask support was carried out swiftly through close cooperation with not only our residents but also on-site medical staff and related personnel at temporary living facilities, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, local governments, and the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association.
It was possible thanks to the support and consideration of CU franchise owners, despite CU's own restrictions on mask orders.
BGF Retail was the first in the industry in 2015 to sign a business agreement with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Disaster Relief Association, establishing a disaster prevention and emergency relief system utilizing a network of over 30 logistics bases and 14,000 stores nationwide. Since 2015, starting with support for the Sunchang quarantine village during the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) outbreak, they have delivered emergency relief supplies to sites affected by heavy snow, torrential rains, wildfires, and most recently, the helicopter crash site near Dokdo.
A BGF Retail official said, "We hope that the supportive hearts of CU franchise owners, who willingly participated in the support even at the cost of sales opportunities, are well conveyed and that stability is achieved as soon as possible," adding, "Going forward, BGF Retail will actively contribute to protecting the safety of the people nationwide based on infrastructure together with CU franchise owners."
