Gwangju City Announces Call for Applicants for Democratic Citizenship Education Support Project Until the 17th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 3rd that it will open applications for subsidy support projects for the 2020 Democratic Citizenship Education (Gwangju Citizens University) from the 3rd to the 17th.
Democratic citizenship education was introduced for the first time last year, providing various educational programs aimed at fostering democratic citizenship awareness in the daily lives of citizens, targeting general citizens of Gwangju or specific groups and organizations such as village communities. This year, it will be expanded and operated more extensively.
In particular, Gwangju has expanded the eligibility for applicants to include non-profit corporations and organizations, cooperatives, social enterprises, universities, and village communities to diversify the participating groups and enhance the quality of the programs. It also allows joint participation by two or more institutions or organizations.
The programs will be composed of various themes such as autonomy and participatory democracy, democratic citizenship awareness, local communities, and humanities and liberal arts. Applicant institutions and organizations can freely organize the educational content within the scope that fits the educational purpose, considering the characteristics of the education recipients, thereby increasing accessibility.
Furthermore, to enable mutual communication and empathy between instructors and learners, the city plans to encourage various program formats that strengthen interactive communication, such as discussions among participants, workshops, and field experiences, rather than lecture-style teaching.
Detailed information can be found on the Gwangju city website under ‘Notices and Announcements.’
