Reviewing the Timing of Inter-Korean Discussions on the Coronavirus
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Dong-pyo] South and North Korea plan to review the timing of discussions to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia). It is known that there have been no cases of coronavirus infection in North Korea so far.
On the 3rd, Yeosang-gi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Unification, said at a regular briefing, "The government basically believes that quarantine cooperation between South and North Korea is necessary," and added, "We plan to review the timing of discussions while monitoring our situation and the progress on the North Korean side."
North Korea's state-run media, Korean Central TV, reported on the 2nd through an interview with Song In-beom, Director of the Ministry of Public Health, that the novel coronavirus has not yet occurred in North Korea.
Meanwhile, Spokesperson Ye said regarding the separate telephone line established between Seoul and Pyongyang to replace the temporarily suspended functions of the Kaesong Inter-Korean Liaison Office for coronavirus quarantine, "It is operating normally at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. as agreed by both sides."
