Representative of Company Installing 'Fence' in Busan Haeridangil Sent to Prosecution
Charges Including Obstruction of Business and General Traffic Interference
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] The CEO of Company A, who caused controversy by installing a 'fence' in front of the densely populated commercial area of Busan Haeridan-gil, selected as the 'Best Alley in Korea' and established as a local tourist attraction, has been investigated by the police and referred to the prosecution.
According to the Busan Eastern District Prosecutors' Office on the 3rd, the Haeundae Police Station sent Company A's CEO Mr. B to the prosecution on charges of obstruction of business and general traffic obstruction on the 20th of last month.
Mr. B is accused of installing a fence on a site of about 28㎡ in front of Wooil Mansion in U-dong, Haeundae-gu, last October, obstructing the business of three famous restaurants on Haeridan-gil and causing inconvenience to pedestrian traffic.
After being sent to the prosecution, Company A removed the tent installed on the fence, but left 16 steel poles supporting the tent at the site. The steel poles are about 160cm long, comparable to an adult's height, raising concerns about public safety.
Mr. B has claimed that he installed the fence to indicate ownership after winning the land at auction.
Haeundae-gu and nearby merchants have continuously demanded the removal of the fence, arguing that it damages the tourist area's aesthetics and obstructs pedestrian traffic, leading to conflicts with Mr. B. In November last year, the merchants filed a provisional injunction to prohibit obstruction of passage at the Busan Eastern District Court and are currently awaiting the court's decision.
