New Registrations of Rental Business Operators Decrease by 50%

It is analyzed that the increase in new registrations slowed down as the government reduced some tax benefits for rental business operators through the September 13, 2018 measures.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 3rd, the number of newly registered rental business operators last year was 74,000, a 50.1% decrease compared to 148,000 in 2018. The total number of registered rental business operators to date reaches 481,000.
In the entire Seoul metropolitan area, the number of newly registered rental business operators was 56,000, down 50.9% from 114,000 the previous year. In Seoul, it was 25,000, a 58.4% decrease from 60,000 the previous year. In the provinces, the number of newly registered rental business operators was 18,000, down 47.3% from 34,000 the previous year.
Last year, the number of registered rental houses was 146,000, a 61.9% decrease compared to 382,000 in 2018. The total number of registered rental houses to date reaches 1,508,000. In the entire Seoul metropolitan area, the number of newly registered rental houses was 102,000, down 61.8% from 268,000 the previous year. Among these, Seoul had 48,000, a 66.2% decrease from 142,000 the previous year. The provinces had 43,000, down 62.2% from 115,000 the previous year.
However, in December last year alone, 9,144 people newly registered as rental business operators, a 47.1% increase compared to 6,215 in the previous month. Registered rental houses also increased by 60.3% during the same period to 18,020.
