The British Academy Awards ceremony is hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, established in 1947, and is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the English-speaking world.
At the "2020 British Academy Awards" ceremony held on the 2nd (local time) at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Director Bong Joon-ho's film "Parasite" won the Best Film Not in the English Language and Best Original Screenplay awards.
This is the second time a Korean film has won the Best Film Not in the English Language award at the British Academy Awards, following Director Park Chan-wook's "The Handmaiden" in 2018.
In his acceptance speech for the Best Original Screenplay award, Director Bong said, "Since it was written in a foreign language, I did not expect to receive this award. I am grateful to the actors who wonderfully delivered the lines I wrote. The actors' expressions and body language are a common language."
He continued, "I always spent a lot of time writing in cafes. I never imagined standing at the Royal Albert Hall. I thank the British Academy of Film and Television Arts for showing great love to 'Parasite.' I dedicate this honor to the screenplay production company, investors, and everyone who worked with us."
Regarding the Best Film Not in the English Language award, he said, "It would have been difficult without the actors who showed the best ensemble. I also want to give applause to CEO Kwak Shin-ae, who has been contemplating this film with me for five years," introducing actor Song Kang-ho and producer Kwak Shin-ae, CEO of Barunson E&A.
