Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok Visits Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, visited Yeongam Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries with Lee Ho-seung, Chief Economic Secretary to the President, to encourage the workers.

According to Jeonnam Province on the 31st, the visit by Governor Kim and Chief Secretary Lee was carried out to understand the current status of LNG shipbuilding, which has recently dominated ship orders, and the difficulties faced at the production site.

On that day, Chief Secretary Lee held an on-site meeting with government officials including Kang Sung-cheon, Secretary for Industry and Trade, and Choi Nam-ho, Director of Manufacturing Industry Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as well as shipbuilding company representatives from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, discussing the challenges faced by companies and ways to revitalize the shipbuilding industry.

At the meeting, the province requested government support for the ‘Small and Medium Shipbuilders Structural Advancement Support Project’ and the ‘Shipbuilding and Marine Safety and Environmental Practical Technology Development Project.’

Additionally, shipbuilding companies demanded government support that could provide practical help to businesses, such as extending the designation of employment and industrial crisis areas and plans for training specialized personnel in the shipbuilding industry.

Chief Secretary Lee said, “Although the economic downturn has prolonged, there is considerable recovery due to the efforts of companies and local governments,” and added, “The government will also do its best to overcome the crisis in the shipbuilding industry.”
