China Reports 38 New Deaths from Novel Coronavirus in One Day, Total Deaths Reach 170 (Update)
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] The number of deaths due to the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia) in China increased by 38 in just one day. This is the highest number of deaths recorded in a single day.
On the 30th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, 1,737 new confirmed cases were reported across 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Among these, 131 cases were classified as severe. The additional deaths were also counted as 38, with 37 in Hubei Province, where the virus originated in Wuhan City, and 1 in Sichuan Province.
So far, the cumulative number of confirmed cases of the novel virus across China has risen to 7,711. With 1,370 patients classified as severe, the death toll is expected to continue increasing. The cumulative number of deaths has been reported as 170.
The cumulative number of suspected cases has been reported as 12,167, and the number of close contacts of infected individuals has increased to 88,693. Among them, 81,947 are currently under medical observation.
