MIKTA Member Countries Including Korea and Australia Issue Statement Condoling Earthquake Damage in Turkey
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Foreign ministers of MIKTA member countries, including Mexico, Indonesia, Australia, and South Korea, issued a joint statement on the 29th expressing condolences for the earthquake damage that occurred in Turkey.
MIKTA is a consultative group of middle powers consisting of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia, launched in September 2013 during the 68th United Nations General Assembly.
In the joint statement, MIKTA foreign ministers expressed, "We deeply regret the loss of lives caused by the earthquake in eastern Turkey on the 24th, offer our condolences to the bereaved families, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured," while expressing solidarity with the Turkish government and people on behalf of MIKTA.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "This joint statement is evaluated as an opportunity to comfort Turkey for the earthquake damage and to reaffirm the solidarity among MIKTA member countries ahead of South Korea's assumption of the MIKTA chairmanship in February this year."
